Our History

Bateau Bay Medical Centre began in 1982 when Drs Daryl and Mary Wood began a practice in the shopping centre on the corner of Bateau Bay Road and the Entrance Road. Dr Phil Godden joined the practice in 1983.

In 1985 the practice purchased a vacant block on the corner of what, at that stage, was a large cow paddock and the surgery constructed was the first building on the southern side of Mossman Ave.

Dr Bruce Macauley joined the practice when it opened on the current site in the second half of 1985. Dr Neil Janes joined the practice in 1991 and stayed until 2007. In 2003, the practice purchased the adjacent house at 601 The Entrance Road. The back yard of this property was utilised for parking and the house rented out to tenants. Dr Dawn Ng joined the practice in 2004 and her husband, Dr Tim Barling, joined in 2005.

The first nurse was employed in the practice in 1999 and nurses became an established part of the practice team. The practice employed the first Exercise Physiologist working in general practice on the Central Coast in 2005. A number of allied health professionals have subsequently been part of the practice with Jason McMinimmee (physio/EP) establishing a substantial practice from 2012.

The house at 601 began to be used by the practice manager and counsellors in 2008 with a DA application submitted to council. This was finally approved in 2011. In 2010 Dr Godden bought the practice from Drs Wood and Macauley. In 2012 rebuilding of 601 and the carpark took place and the skin clinic and allied health rooms opened in late 2012. Dr Phil Godden and Dr Bruce Macauley both moved part of their general practice time to dedicated skin cancer. Dr Phil Myers joined the practice in 2012. In 2014, the rooms in 599 were refurbished and Dr Louis Fourie joined the practice. Dr Almut von Schwedler relocated to the practice from Toukley Medical Centre midway through 2015.
